Ever heard of our donor network, “Young Philanthropists”? This group of game changers consists of individuals in their 20’s and 30’s looking to start their philanthropic journeys and connect with likeminded young adults in the South Hampton Roads community.
Each quarter, our Young Philanthropists donor network comes together for our “Volunteers on Tap” event, a night dedicated to networking, volunteerism, and camaraderie. On Thursday, July 16th, nearly 20 attendees gathered at COVA Brewing Co. for a night full of networking, volunteerism, and camaraderie.
Together, they successfully assembled 100 snack pack kits filled with healthy options.
“Our volunteer project at Volunteers on Tap was fast-paced and engaging,” said Mikayla Hume, Director of Volunteerism at United Way of South Hampton Roads. “Our Young Philanthropists members always tackle the volunteer project with passion, and some competition, seeing who can make the most at once or throughout the evening… But what is most impactful is the volunteers knowing these snack packs were going to incredible students the very next day.”
The snack packs were donated to students who are part of Horizons Hampton Roads, Inc.’s summer program.
“The kits helped us celebrate five weeks of summer learning,” said Praveen Loganathan, Director of Development & Community Engagement at Horizons Hampton Roads, Inc. “Students received their snack packs at the end of the closing ceremony, during which they showcased everything they learned this summer – the snack packs were more than a celebratory treat; they were a message to our students that they matter and their community supports them!”
These events prove the meaningful work that takes place when passionate community leaders come together to make a difference.
