Women United’s 2025 Class of 10 for 10

Women United proudly recognizes 10 local female leaders and philanthropists each year by welcoming them into the Women United Class of 10 for 10. These women generously contribute $10,000 to our endowment fund, which supports our Mobility-Mentoring programs, Aspire and Strive. Not only is their contribution financially supporting the future of these programs, it is also creating generational, lasting change in our community.

We’re pleased to welcome the following women to the 2025 Class of 10 for 10:

Lynn Clements

Lynn Clements is President of Clements Consulting LLC, founded in 2022 to support nonprofits and public sector organizations—including museums, cultural and historic institutions, libraries, aquariums, zoos, and community agencies. Her current engagement is serving as Director of Resource Development for the Dozoretz Hospice House of Hampton Roads, which opened in September 2024.

Lynn is a seasoned leader in nonprofit and public administration with expertise in organizational and fund development, grant writing, team building, event management, program development, and advocacy. From 2017 to 2022, she was Executive Director of Slover Library in Downtown Norfolk, where she led the creation of four Creative Studios, the Hendrix Business Center, and the Granby Waffle Shop at Slover.

Previously, Lynn spent 32 years at the Virginia Aquarium, serving as both Department Director and CEO. As Director of the City of Virginia Beach Department of Aquarium & Museums, she oversaw operations at the Aquarium as well as three historic house museums and an African American museum. Earlier in her career, she was a public-school science educator and department chair for ten years.

Under her leadership, the Virginia Aquarium was named 2016 Philanthropic Organization of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Lynn was also honored to receive a 2017 YWCA Women of Distinction Award for her work to eliminate racism and empower women.

She has held leadership roles on several boards, including the Association of Zoos & Aquariums, Old Dominion University’s College of Science Advisory Board, Virginia Wesleyan University, and as Chair of the Tidewater Community College Board. In 2017, she was selected as one of 50 CEOs nationwide to participate in the National Arts Strategies’ Chief Executive Program, “Community & Culture,” sponsored by Harvard, the University of Michigan, and the Kresge Foundation. Lynn is also a Civic Leadership Institute alum.

Why did Lynn choose to participate in the Women United 10 for 10 program? In 2017, she participated in a Harvard leadership program that changed the trajectory of her life. She discovered that she could apply the skills she had, as well as add new strategies, that resulted in a whole new career path for her. She joined Women United’s 10 for 10 program as she wants to similarly facilitate breakthrough, life-changing experiences for each of the women supported by this impactful fund.

Susan Pilato

At age 25, Susan Pilato and her business partner, Donna Counts, created what is now known as PC&A Business Environments. With a focus on corporate environments, they began with an office in Norfolk, Virginia, and have expanded to Richmond. When one of their largest clients made the use of solid wood desks the standard for its offices, PC&A quickly came to appreciate the sustainability and longevity of solid wood furniture. These were the early-stage values which would vault Susan’s next business venture.

In 2018, Mantra Inspired Furniture (MIF) was born. MIF is named for a simple code of ethics – 8 Mantras – passed down from Susan’s father. As a further tribute to her father’s legacy, MIF incorporates mantras into the design and foundation of solid wood furniture that is crafted by the Amish community in Ohio. Responsibility towards others and our earth are themes throughout MIF, its code, and its family of employees. Education is an important part of the philosophy, so that consumers understand the true differences between MDF, particle board and real solid wood and their effects on the environment. With a mission never to have MIF furniture end up in landfills, the products are built to last for generations. MIF was created by designers, for designers – to give them the opportunity to explore their creativity within the MIF innovative product suite.

Currently, Susan serves as an Advisory Board Member for Radford University’s Design Program, is Commissioner and Vice Chair for the Norfolk Airport Authority, Greater Norfolk Corporation Board Member, Envision Lead Grow Board Member, the Chairperson for the Give Back 2 Da Block Board, NeoCon Advisory Board Member, BIFMA Board Member, and a TowneBank Norfolk Regional Board Member.
