Navigating love and relationships isn’t always easy – David and Tamela Mann’s “Love & Relationship Tour” addresses navigating those topics through comedy, music, and intimate conversations.
Several of our staff members had the pleasure of attending the “Love & Relationship Tour” with David and Tamela Mann at the Harrison Opera House in Norfolk. The Manns are Grammy Award winners who are widely recognized for their roles as Mr. Brown and Cora in numerous Tyler Perry productions. We were also joined by Mark Johnson, Senior Vice President, Director, Community Development, Virginia Region, Truist. Mark also served as past board chair, and currently serves as a board member, and Vice President of our African American Leadership Society (AALS) cabinet.
The “Love & Relationship Tour” focuses on healthy relationships, family, and community – values that strongly align with our mission, and more specifically, the work of AALS and our Thriving Families program.
Throughout the evening, we had the pleasure of meeting both David and Tamela prior to the show. During the live show, we presented David and Tamela with the 2026 AALS Legacy of Love & Leadership Award, while sharing with the audience about how the work we’re doing connects to the message of their tour.
“David and Tamela exemplify what it means to lead with faith and serve with purpose,” Sierrah Chavis, Director of Strategic Initiatives, said. “Their journey is a powerful reminder that when influence is aligned with impact, communities are transformed. Through AALS, we are committed to that same mission—cultivating leaders who give, serve, and build pathways for others to rise.”
Part of AALS’s strategic plan is to communicate the relevance and importance of the donor network throughout United Way and the South Hampton Roads area. This collaboration is a direct display of what happens when you bring people and resources together to broaden impact.
We thank David, Tamela, and their team for including us in this special night, and look forward to more opportunities to spread awareness of our work throughout the South Hampton Roads community.
