The end of the year doesn’t mean we’re slowing down here at United Way of South Hampton Roads! In fact, our team continues to grow with the addition of four new faces. Please welcome the newest members of our team:

Alcee Flores | Volunteer Events Manager

Alcee joins our team with over three years of nonprofit experience. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting and Master of Science in taxation accounting from Texas A&M University. Upon graduation, Alcee joined the mission field in Chiang Mai and Pattaya, Thailand, eventually landing full time in Tijuana, Mexico. During her time with Youth with a Mission in Mexico, she served on the operations and staff development teams and led volunteer groups to serve in the red light district and build homes with the Homes of Hope Ministry.

Following her time in Mexico, Alcee served on the Resource Development team at Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity in South Dakota. She began her career with United Way of South Hampton Roads as a Campaign Manager. Having formerly worked for a United Way-certified agency herself, she thoroughly enjoyed running the agency campaigns, which led her to pursue a permanent place on the United Way team!

In her free time, Alcee enjoys spending time with her husband doing anything in the great outdoors or watching Fightin’ Texas Aggie Football.

Felicia Hobbs | Graphic Designer

Felicia Hobbs (“Fe” for short) has over 20 years of graphic design experience in everything from designing logos for pharma brands to package design for swim products. She attended East Carolina University for Communication Art and Graphic Design. Following her education, she worked for The Agency designing publications such as North Carolina Homes Real Estate Magazine and My Black Book Dining and Shopping Guide. She then spent nine years at Swimways Corporation designing packaging, advertisements, catalogs and displays for their products. She has worked as a freelance designer for several different companies in the area and across the country, specializing in clean, colorful, impactful designs with her signature touch of whimsy.

The Hampton Roads area has been Fe’s home for over 10 years and she is proud to say she just recently became a homeowner in Suffolk. In her spare time, Fe enjoys painting, working on her new fixer-upper home with her hubby and enjoying country living… in fact, she’s hoping to have chickens this spring.

Sophia Tolliver, MSW | Case Manager, Mission United

Sophia Tolliver, MSW is a former Navy Petty Officer. She has over 8 years of service in the United States Navy. She has 12 years of experience as a military spouse and is married to a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer. She has dedicated several years supporting her husband’s military career by enduring frequent deployments, changing duty stations and caring for their two children. One of Sophia’s greatest passions is caring for her family. She is dedicated to serving military-connected service members and their families as well because she understands the unique challenges they face.

Sophia possesses a comprehensive background in Victim Advocacy, Community Engagement and Neighborhood Enrichment derived from intensive coursework, volunteering and internships.  During her time in the military, she volunteered with United Way of Escambia County in Pensacola, Florida. In this role, she coordinated the Greater Area Combined Federal Campaign Agency Fairs and organized special events to help bring awareness to the military community. Sophia contributed to raising money for different non-profit organizations, while supporting their strategic core values and missions. Her experience with United Way, as well as her passion for veterans, inspired her to pursue a degree in Social Work. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Norfolk State University and a Master of Social Work from Saint Leo University.

In November 2018, Sophia joined the United Way of South Hampton Roads as a Case Manager with Mission United. She continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our military-connected families by providing a single entry point for employment, education, financial guidance, healthcare, housing, transportation and more.

Stephanie Porter | Marketing Coordinator and Manager, African American Leadership Society

Stephanie is a proud native of Hampton, VA with a passion for service, leadership and a good Spotify playlist. She has spent the last three years creating digital marketing strategies for local businesses and is currently most excited about the work she is doing to increase the number of African American philanthropists in our area.

Before transitioning to her new role as Marketing Coordinator, Stephanie severed as a Campaign Manager with United Way of South Hampton Roads. In this role, she developed a unique perspective of understanding social responsibility and what it truly means to make a lasting impact in the community.

Stephanie is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Arts in Business with a concentration in Marketing at Strayer University. When she is not dedicated to her career or education, Stephanie enjoys mentoring teenage girls as the Varsity Cheerleading Coach at Bethel High School.
