Norfolk, Va., Jan. 18, 2017 – After witnessing the devastating effects Hurricane Matthew had on the community, GEICO’s Virginia Beach associates banded together in an effort to support those in need. GEICO joined forces with United Way of South Hampton Roads (UWSHR) to help local military families impacted by the storm.
UWSHR’s Mission United team reached out to all five branches of the military to obtain a list of local military families and their specific needs. GEICO’s auto damage associates then took that list and personally purchased those items. Clothing, linens and other household goods will be donated to those families to help replace what was destroyed or lost during the storm. Family care packages will be assembled on January 27 and distributed to local military families by Mission United Hampton Roads.
GEICO has been a long-time supporter of United Way of South Hampton Roads. GEICO’s Virginia Beach associates raised over $633,000 through its workplace giving campaign last month. This generous donation will support United Way’s mission and benefit many deserving neighbors of all kinds.
“GEICO’s claim adjusters saw firsthand the devastation left behind in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew and decided to lend a helping hand,” said John Pham, regional vice president. “With the help of United Way of South Hampton Roads, GEICO’s Virginia Beach associates stepped up to the plate and supported our community when they needed it the most. I’m proud of the dedication our team has to give back to the local community and I look forward to continuing this tradition of community service.”
UWSHR unites people and organizations to solve big problems, together. For more information, contact Gary Hudgins at 757-853-8500 Ext 125 or by email at email@example.com.
