AFRICAN AMERICAN LEADERSHIP SOCIETY

The African American Leadership Society is a local coalition of black professionals and allies who commit our time, energy and financial resources to building a stronger, more equitable community for all. At our core, we are advocates – asking the hard questions, convening critical discussions and acting as a voice for those who often go unheard. We work to build bridges and create equitable opportunities so our community can thrive.

HOW TO JOIN

We are looking for other people who strive to create a positive impact in our community and share our deep commitment to supporting minorities. AALS membership is an annual gift of at least $1,000. If you are not quite ready to join AALS at the $1,000 level, the AALS step-up program allows you to gradually increase your gift over a period of three years while enjoying full membership and recognition benefits. Step-up members make a commitment to give at least $600 in year one, $800 in year two and $1,000 in year three. To learn more or get involved, email us.

STEM SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

We’re on a mission to increase opportunity for African American students and reduce the racial and gender gaps that currently exists in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). To support black youth and veterans pursing STEM degrees through higher education, United Way of South Hampton Roads’ African American Leadership Society created the STEM Scholarship Program funded by USAA. This initiative is designed to provide scholarship and academic support for African American students and veterans who aspire to earn STEM degrees and pursue careers in the STEM field.
