United Way of South Hampton Roads Announces Brent Haden as New Board Chair

United Way of South Hampton Roads is proud to announce Brent Haden as the new Chair of our Board of Directors.

See below for a letter from Brent on his goals for his time as our Chair:

Dear United Way Family and South Hampton Roads Community,

I am honored and excited to accept my election and to serve as Chair of Board of Directors for United Way of South Hampton Roads. It is a privilege to serve this organization and the communities we support. I want to start by expressing my gratitude to our board, dedicated staff, volunteers, partner agencies, and especially our outgoing Chair, Mark Johnson, for their commitment to and stewardship of United Way’s mission and our community. Mark, your leadership, unbridled enthusiasm, energy and dedication to our South Hampton Roads community is an inspiration and we are better for your service. For those of you who do not know me, I have volunteered with United Way for over 28 years and have served on the Community Investments Committee in various capacities throughout that entire time. I have been a volunteer adult leader in the Boy Scouts, former President of the Suffolk division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, past President of the UVA Club of Tidewater, past member of the UVA Jefferson Scholars Committee and am currently working as an in-house General Counsel for a Virginia Beach based company.

In the year ahead, I and our Board will work to:

  1. Expand United Way of South Hampton Roads’ impact through deeper collaboration with donors, nonprofit partners, and community leaders.
  2. Build on past success and support our staff to increase efficiency and accountability so every dollar and every effort translates into meaningful outcomes.
  3. Foster a culture of innovation, learning, and shared responsibility across our network.

I believe United Way’s strength lies in our people, the volunteers who give their time, the donors who invest in our mission, and the staff who turn vision into action. I invite everyone to become engaged and attend our community events, donate what you can, share your ideas, volunteer and help us shape a year of bold, compassionate action. Together we can ensure that United Way of South Hampton Roads continues its role as a leading catalyst for good in our community.

Thank you for your continued support and belief in our mission. I look forward to working with all of you as we work to build stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities.

With gratitude and no small amount of excitement

Brent R. Haden

Chair, Board of Directors for United Way of South Hampton Roads
