“I got connected to United Way through the Endependence Center, the Lead Partner Agency I work for that specifically focuses on serving individuals with disabilities, to become and to start working as a Long-Term Mobility Mentor for United Way’s VB Thrive Program. My time as a VB Thrive Long Term Mobility Mentor has not only guided the participants on my caseload on their journey to self-sufficiency by connecting them to resources to help them reach their goals, but also has provided peer mentoring to them in a way that they are able to see that they, too, can obtain and/or maintain their desired level of economic self-sufficiency in spite of the additional barriers they may be facing as a result of their disability/chronic health conditions. I look forward to continuing to connect people to resources and continuing to provide one on one peer support so participants on my caseload can see that they, too, can obtain or maintain their desired level of economic self-sufficiency.”
